Waterfront Trail, Trent Canal, apple orchards, beaches, historic, First Nations, waterfront, wineries
Route on the Waterfront Trail, Millennium Trail and quiet paved roads close to the shore of Lake Ontario and Rice Lake, through several towns on the Trent Canal, crossing the Murray Canal and the Bay of Quinte.

The route uses bicycle friendly roads with paved shoulders or where motor vehicle traffic is light so drivers can easily leave space around you. Ontario law requires all drivers of motor vehicles to maintain a minimum distance of one meter, where practical, when passing cyclists on highways.

Enjoy the scenic Lake Ontario shore, Rice Lake and the Prince Edward County peninsula bicycling through farmland and small towns east of Toronto.  The route starts and ends in Belleville on the Bay of Quinte at the Moira River, convenient to transportation by rail, bus or car. This is a longer route which includes most of the Bay of Quinte route with an optional day of riding from Picton to visit wineries and cheese factories.

From Belleville you follow the Trent Canal through Campbellford and Alderville First Nation to the Roseneath Carousel and on to beautiful Rice Lake.  Bike through picture perfect rolling farmland with wooded hills descending to Lake Ontario  in Cobourg, with its' beach and boardwalk on Lake Ontario and 1860 Victoria Hall.   Enjoy a scenic ride on the Waterfront Trail along Lake Ontario through the old fashioned main streets of delightful heritage towns on the way to Brighton with the Presqu'ile Provincial Park beaches and natural areas.
Continue by crossing the Murray Canal and follow the newly resurfaced Millennium Trail past many wineries to Picton.  The optional day loop takes you to the quiet waterfront southeastern peninsula and Lake on the Mountain with an overlook of Glenora Ferry.  Returning to Belleville you cross the Bay of Quinte "Skyway Bridge" the through Tyendinaga First Nation.
